Background. The high migration dynamics and multinational composition of the population in the South of Russia necessitates the study of the historical experience of state policy in the ethnic sphere. This will allow us to comprehend the historical experience of interethnic interaction in the context of economic development of the region. The purpose of the work is to analyze the experience of functioning of immigration communes and collective farms on the don and Kuban in the conditions of introduction of Soviet forms of management.
Materials and methods. Implementation of research tasks was based on the use of archival documents from the funds of the State archive of the Rostov region. An important place is occupied by the reports and results of studies of the activities of immigration communities in the North Caucasus region in the 1920, legal acts regulating their activities, economic contracts and statistical information. The article uses historical-genetic and historical-comparative research methods.
Results. The peculiarities of occurrence and specifics of immigration farms and communities in the South-Eastern region and the North Caucasus region in the 1920. Identified the purpose and objectives of the creation of the resettlement farms. The article considers the gender and age, the national composition of the immigration communes, the peculiarities of relations between different ethnic groups of Communards, the difficulties and problems they faced, as well as the nature of relations with the indigenous population of the region.
Conclusions. The study of the experience of functioning of immigration communes and collective farms on the don and Kuban allows to understand the peculiarities of economic and ethno-social development of the region in the 1920, to take into account the problems and difficulties faced by immigrants in the framework of the project to create exemplary farms, to determine the degree of influence of their experience on the processes of collectivization in the don and the North Caucasus.
